Play Video Games to Improve Cognitive Ability of the Elderly

Who says games are only intended for teenagers and children. Games it also has a very nice function for those who are elderly, especially in improving cognitive abilities. This was revealed in a study conducted by researchers from the University of Iowa.

In the research team led by Prof. Fredric Wolinsky was observing their behavior over the age of 50 years. A total of 681 elderly volunteers involved in the study.

Furthermore, the volunteers were divided into four groups. The first group was asked to play a crossword game on the computer for 10 hours. Subsequently three other groups were asked to play a game called Road Tour, where the group played 10 hours in the lab, the second group played 14 hours in the lab and the latter playing 10 hours at home.

The activity was carried out for almost a year. As a result, volunteers who play games for 10 hours reported gain increased cognitive abilities equivalent to three years' time. Subsequently they were playing 14 hours to obtain an increase in cognitive ability that is equivalent to 4 years. In addition, those who play crossword puzzles also obtain improvements in terms of concentration and speed of information processing.
